“You really like cinema, but cinema doesn’t like you very much.”
“In cinema, very quickly, with the American influence that everyone accepted, some of that documentary work was abandoned. He immediately got down to the show, which was nothing more than the final mission, let’s say the mass of the film. In today’s movies, mass is celebrated and prayer is no longer said. The great artists, the honest artists, say their prayer first, and then there is the mass, with a more or less faithful audience. The Americans have regulated the mass. What matters to them about the mass is the collection: a good mass is a mass with a full church, which gives a great collection.”
